LCICON Hawaii streaming by Tom Van Kerschaver | Aug 21, 2015 | Conventions, News, Other | 0 comments Live Streaming Video during LCICon Honolulu LCICon Honolulu was LCI’s first attempt at live streaming. It was a success considering LCI did very little promotion. LCI used a data plan on an iPad. Cost was $220USD for 4GB of data to stream the nine events below (approximately 15 hours). Prior to convention, LCI tested both Meerkat and Periscope. Meerkat allowed a larger viewing audience: viewers could use either Facebook or Twitter to login and watch, whereas Periscope would have only allowed Twitter accounts to view; Meerkat could be viewed via desktop, tablet or a smart phone app, whereas Periscope could only be viewed using an app. The downsides to both Meerkat and Periscope is that they only stream vertically, and the video quality is grainy. Both products were released shortly before LCICon, so there may be improvements in the future. In the meantime, prior to LCICon Fukuoka Japan, LCI will look into other products in the hopes of live-streaming higher quality, horizontal video during the next convention. The first number below is total number of people who signed in to watch, whether they were there for the entire event or only part of it. The second number is the highest number of people watching at any given time.
